Can you take part in a clinical trial?

If you decide that you would like to take part in a clinical trial, it is important that you consider the following factors:

• Each study has strict guidelines on who can take part. For instance, a trial might be for a certain age group, a particular type or stage of cancer, or for patients with specific previous treatments.
• At present in Ireland, clinical trials are not open for all types of cancer and are not available in all parts of the country. ICORG is working to improve this situation.
• Your consultant will have to assess whether taking part in a clinical trial is suitable for you and is in your best interests.
